The Board of Education in Texas postponed the adoption of new standards in March of Social Studies in the state of public schools.
The board had planned on standards of today's vote. But after two days of debate was tmembers not by a long list of modifications mainly to the jury to the more conservative members of the funded work.
The motion was approved unanimously this afternoon.
Prior to this action several preliminary decisions have been reached.
We could put the students of the history of the conservative groups of the 1980s and 1990s study - no similar requirement for liberal groups. Powered by board member Don McLeroy, R-College Station, the provision states that students should learn about "organizations and key people in the conservative resurgence," including Eagle Forum founder Phyllis Schlafly.
This provision was approved on a 7-6 was presented to the Board with the conservative bloc all but one of the affirmative votes.
However, close to other voices in this week, the conservative bloc was too short.
She tries again and again, schools have a greater emphasis on the role of religion in American history and meaning of Christian holidays, including Christmas.
Among the proposals was gunned down Thursday a request to the textbooks, "revivals" among the major upcoming events are the American Revolution.
Only members of the conservative bloc clear - all Republicans - supported the idea, while other Republicans and Democrats have decided to stay with the recommendation of Texas teachers and academics on the subject.
The Council has proposed changes that the scores of social studies curriculum, specifying what students should be history, politics, geography and other classes are taught by elementary school through high school.
Much of the discussion of historical figures involved in the classes of history books and should be covered.
Among those dropped from the old primary school curriculum San Antonio Mayor Henry Cisneros were, Delores Huerta, the United Farm Workers with Cesar Chavez co-founded and Miriam "Ma" Ferguson, the first woman governor of Texas.
The board included Raul Gonzalez, the first Hispanic elected to the Supreme Court of Texas, former U. S. Rep. Henry B. Gonzalez and Lorenzo de Zavala, vice president of the Republic of Texas.
Hispanic leaders had earlier, that only 16 of 162 historical figures were noted in the proposed program standards listed Hispanic.
Board member Barbara Cargill, R-The Woodlands, proposed an amendment to require that fifth graders learn the capitals of all 50 states.
Geraldine Miller, R-Dallas, supports the idea and said, ". This is something that all students should know "A majority voted for the add request.
Social studies standards in place to stay for a decade dictate, who taught in government, history and other social studies classes in the state of public elementary and secondary schools.
The rules must be developed for national tests.
And because Texas buys so many schools of textbooks that could affect the accounting standards of Texas, where publishers of books available in other states.
